Edwin R. Alberti purchased 600 acres on Cabbage Swamp from the heirs of Zachariah Haddock, who died in 1826. The steam sawmill was constructed in 1833 and store began operation in 1837.

In 1844, a post office was established under the name of Woodstock Mills and Alberti was the first postmaster. There was a church, schoolhouse, and store located on the plantation.
A slave jail was also located on this plantation which consisted of two rooms, each were about 9X12 feet
