Historical notes

This plantation land belonging to David Hunt was sold to John Hagan who combined it with the land of others to form Cypress Grove which was then sold to U.S. President Zachary Taylor in 1840. Taylor's widow sold the plantation to Charles B. New in 1850. It was probably known as Buena Vista beginning with Mr. News ownership.

Buena Vista Island was just off shore from this plantation out in the MS River. The water between the island and the plantation was known as Gillam's Shute. Boats went through this shute to cut several miles of their trip along the MS River. This is probably the reason that Buena Vista Landing was located on this plantation.
