Bennett, Smith, Cobb, Ferriday, Gillespie, Ralston, Dunbar
Edwin Ruthven Bennett, son of Caleb Prew Bennett, Governor of Delaware, and Catherine Britton, was a lawyer and farmer who lived on Retirement Plantation, Adams County, Mississippi, with his wife, Mary Louisa Smith Ruthven, daughter of Calvin Smith and Priscilla Cobb. Edwin Ruthven Bennett purchased over 257 acres of land in Madison Parish, Louisiana in August of 1844.
Edwin R. Bennett and his wife, Mary Louisa Smith Bennett, lived on Retirement Plantation, Adams County, Mississippi. Mary Louisa Smith was the youngest daughter of Calvin Smith and Priscilla Cobb Smith. Mary Louisa inherited Retirement Plantation from her father. Mary Louisa and Edwin lived on Retirement Plantation. A. R. McCrain managed the Bennett Plantation.
Robert Stewart, a slave, gave a statement in an affidavit that he was born on the Bennett Plantation in Madison Parish in 1853. The affidavit is a part of the Civil War pension file of Jacob Stewart. Robert Stewart is the nephew of Jacob Stewart great great grandfather of Edward B Adams.
